(Pssst... this is a long article. For the one most important detail to make you feel like a princess, make sure you read the end of this article.)

With two royal weddings in the last year, it’s no wonder that the royal princess bride look is trending. However...you don’t have to be a member of the royal family to feel like a princess on your wedding day. You can find your style of tiara make it part of your own crown jewels.

To feel like a princess, there are 3 key details you need to get right.

#1 - Understand Your Personal Style

You may have already been thinking about your wedding style for years. However, if you haven’t, it's important to understand what style of bride you want to be to understand what style of princess you’re going to be.

Are you an old soul? Do you connect with nature? Have you always pictured yourself getting married in a grand church or palace? The answers to these questions will help you decide on your dress, makeup, hair and tiara style.

Below we’ve described the 7 main bridal styles to help you determine what type of princess you are.

The Vintage Bride

(This Vintage Bride and Groom are completely owning their 1920’s style.)

If you’re an old soul with a taste for the classics, you are likely a Vintage Bride. Think dress sleeves, lace, pearls, fascinators, net veils, red lipstick and a fur throw set to Great Gatsby art deco style decor with a live jazz band. And for the Vintage Bride, the tiara is going to be something very simple or an embellished headband.

If this is your style, you may want to see if there is an old dress passed down from your grandmother or check out these very affordable vintage wedding dresses (or for something a bit more upscale and one-of-a-kind, try these vintage dresses). Also, here are tips on how to throw a vintage style wedding.

The Rustic Bride

(Left: A rustic bride rocking her country spirit, Right: another bride rocking her boho-style charm.)

If you connect with nature and can see yourself getting married in a winery, field or barn decorated with lanterns, string lights and lots of burlap decor, your soul is that of a Rustic Bride. Your dress will have a natural look or boho look, paired with leather and a bridal tiara or crown made of flowers or crystals.

The Modern Bride

(Who needs to wear white on her wedding day? Not the Modern Bride.)

The Modern Bride may have a traditional wedding framework but with a unique, trendy wedding dress, flowers and other types of decor. If you see yourself getting married in a jumpsuit, crop top, or colored wedding dress, with a traits such as a plunging neckline or sheer fabric, on a New York City rooftop, you have the essence of a Modern Bride. The modern tiara can represent something from nature like crystals or flowers or something traditional, worn in a unique way.

Do you see yourself as Cinderella in a ball gown, getting married in a ballroom or grand church? Do you love idea of a black tie event with metallic decor and loads of flowers? If your answer is yes to some or all of these, you’re probably a Glamorous Bride. The bridal tiara or crown on the Glamorous Bride will likely be sparkle brightly and is sure to make a statement.

If you saw any of the royal weddings, you will understand the elegant style of the Conservative Bride. The conservative wedding dress often has sleeves, high necklines, simple to no decor, classic jewelry and most likely a veil. The Conservative Bride’s tiara can be simple or make a statement, but you can be sure that it will be the most noticeable bridal accessory that she is wearing.

(This barefoot beauty is feeling the ocean vibes on her big day.)

If your dream is to be barefoot in the sand with the waves crashing behind you at sunset, you probably the Casual Beach Bride. The wedding dress will be light, simply and comfortable, and the beach bride’s tiara will have colors or decor reminiscent of the ocean and a simple yet dazzling style.

The Fantasy Bride is as non-traditional as they come. You may have been to or heard of a themed wedding before (think Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc.). These weddings can a fun and completely different type of event. Like the wedding, the tiara will be whimsical and unique, most likely fitting to the fantasy character that you’re trying to be.

Once you know what your style and dress will be like, you need to choose your hair and makeup style that will look best with your new crown.

Style Your Hair and Makeup for Your Royal Look

Bridal Hair

There are many different hairstyles that look great with a tiara, so choose the one that makes you feel beautiful.

(Possible wedding hairstyles with your tiara: updo, half up, down.)

As you can see, any style can be fitting as we’ve seen all of the princesses wear their hair and tiara in different ways

If you want to do your own hair (or have a friend do it) rather than pay a professional, check out this DIY wedding hair post on Practical Wedding's blog.

Bridal Makeup

Many people pay for a makeup artist on their big day, but you don’t have to do that to get the stunning princess look. Like hair, there are literally millions of wedding makeup tutorial videos available for free by professionals (or aspiring professionals) available online.

Before searching for a tutorial, you’ll need to decide whether you want a natural or glam look depending on your style.  The natural look has been a 2018 beauty trend, and we’ve seen it done in both of the royal weddings this year.

We recommend checking out this video of natural makeup (which she then finishes with a more glam look) done by Princess Eugenie’s makeup artist, Hannah Martin.

Finish Your Look with the Right Tiara

The final, and most important, element to make you feel like a royal princess is the bridal tiara. Wearing a tiara on your wedding day is one of the oldest bridal traditions in existence.

No matter what type of bride you are, having a decorative headpiece is a must, and you can go as subtle or glamorous as you like. Remember that this is YOUR day, and this look is for YOU and no one else (well maybe the groom---but he chose you, so...).

So go ahead and channel your inner Audrey Hepburn.

The last step is choosing the RIGHT tiara. Based on your bridal style, choice of dress and hair and makeup, you’ll have a pretty clear idea of which tiara is right for you. Check out some of these gorgeous bridal tiaras as examples to see what aligns with your style.
